“Staff was great-- very professional, courteous, and dapper. Hotel is adjacent to express stops for the blue and red subway lines. This makes hopping across town easier (as you can skip many local stops in between), though you can always take a local train if need be. You can take an express A train from JFK to get to the hotel in a reasonable amount of time. Our room was nice and clean, though it had some wonky design features, for example, the shower has a frosted glass wall that faces the bed, so if you go to the bathroom at night, you might wake up your partner when you turn on the bathroom light. Outlets for charging weren't conveniently located. One good thing is that the minibar was stocked. Most hotels seem to be leaving them empty for some reason.”

“This really has no relevance to most visiting AKA, BUT it is important to me and isn't that what reviews are for? The Smyth Hotel lobby was one of of the best work spaces in lower Manhattan. I was there once a week at a minimum and spent an average of $100-$120 each visit. THEN, the AKA bought it, spent a small fortune renovating it, and CLOSED it to the public. I went to conduct a business meeting today, at the AKA, and was shoo'd out due to the CEO "not wanting anyone but guests" to be in the lobby. I was prepared to buy a drink, food, etc, as I understand how space works in NYC, but this is just extreme. Mind you there wasn't a single person sitting in the newly renovated and designed space. I am writing the CEO as well, but you knew that already, didn't you.”
